Why Digital Marketing?

The day the barter system was abolished & a refined new exchange system of “money” came into existence the dawn of marketing began. True story!
We aren’t here for how marketing came to be but why ‘digital marketing’. Well, the short answer to this why is that “JO DIKHTA HAI VO BIKTA HAI (Lose translation: What gets seen, sells)”.

As for the longer version of the answer: If you notice in the previous 4 lines, you probably saw the “ITALLIC” & “BOLD” words first right?
If you didn’t well then my marketing gimmick failed you, I should try better & if you did see those words before others, why did you see those particular words first?
It’s because they stood out & had your attention before the other words could. I influenced (BTW cleaner word for manipulation) your attention to those particular words by making them stand out among others so that you are intrigued to see them first & voila, my job is done. That essentially what marketing boils down to, at least in my humble opinion.
But wait, you might ask yourself the title is “Why Digital Marketing” & I only distracted you with what marketing is & forgot the word digital. That is not the case, to understand it whole you learn what marketing is, no as for the digital part it is simple, marketing is done on an electricity-powered screen.

Now if you put those two different words together you get “Digital Marketing” which loosely will translate to marketing done on any screen & you have a better understanding of what digital marketing is. If not then I should reconsider explaining things to people.
If you have reached here & still reading this, you now have understood marketing, digital & digital marketing successfully, kudos to you!

For the final act, I shall answer the question I raised, ‘Why’, Why should you opt for digital marketing why not anything?
 I’m an advent advocate of preserving what we have, billboards, magazines, posters & print media in general. Believe me, I still have a poster cut of Sachin Tendulkar that I had cut out from a newspaper but I can’t put that as wallpaper on my phone screen, can I?
That is exactly where digital marketing comes in, we as a society have moved onto screens, so much of screen. Mobiles, televisions, laptops, computers, cars, watch for crying out loud we have smart watches now, can you believe it? We have screens on our watches now.
But it is what it is, the consumer has gone from physical media to now what we see on our screens, so if the consumer who was going to make the purchase shifted to screen (i.e. digital) so should the sellers. That is exactly why digital marketing.

 

In its true essence digital marketing is a branch of marketing as a whole. Now to sell something we need the consumer & most of consumers are majorly on their screens, thus the boom of digital marketing came to be. Like any other entity, it has its complexities, where SEO, Google ads, ad spent, word press all the jargon comes in. Believe me, the more you learn about these the simpler they would feel & are not hard to understand as long as explained well.

Let me explain a bit further, if you have the product you sell & number of people you are selling it to is 100, let us assume you had a success rate of 40% which means you successfully sold your product to 40 people, that is good work. Now we don’t change the product & nor do we change your success rate you work hard to get that, so 40% remains the same but imagine we introduce a “variable” into the mix that makes your consumer base from 100 to 10000, which means now you have sold 4000 units of your product. That is a growth of 1000% & guess what the “variable” we added was nothing else but digital marketing, this is essentially why we chose digital marketing because it seamlessly increases your consumer base exponentially & helps you to be seen by a large number of target audiences.

Please don’t think that there is just this one benefit of digital marketing, there are a plethora of reasons for you to get onto digital marketing.
The ads you see in newspapers are 2D & stationary on a screen it’s 3D & moving, where you can be influenced in a better way than via print media. There is now a story to your brand, you can connect better with your consumer express your ideas in different ways generate emotions & change the course of history whether you like it or not.
You can read data, the data! Oh, the things you can do with the data are so awesome. With digital marketing, you can see who bought your product, where they got it from, how they reach you, what they do everything that helps you strategize your business in a way that you always stay ahead of the curve, who doesn’t like when a plan comes together huh!
Also, I forgot as a frugal person myself I hate when I have to spend just a little, but for good service, you do have to spend good money, the print media although firstly not too data focused plus it’s is costlier to print 1000pages of the same poster than to create a digital copy of the same. So you can see I have a bias toward the digital front. Blame me all, I don’t care.

These are the very few benefits of digital marketing & why you should opt for it as a business person or someone who is trying to get into it, cause screens aren’t going anywhere anytime soon as long as screens remain digital marketing flourishes, all hail the screen I guess!.
